SACRED SPACES

Sacred Spaces is a series of small original paintings created for contemplation and stillness. Each painting has been created with the same level of respect and attentiveness as my larger works; by producing art on a small scale these paintings become more accessible to own. Whilst producing this series I have been connected to artists around the world who were producing small scale works, conveying significant meaning on emotional, psychological and environmental levels.

The colour Blue is used in various intensities; Indigo creates the depth whilst cerulean & cyan calls to the viewer to silently communicate; a call and response experience. 

The paintings are ‘abstract’ but convey elements of the sea, chalk cliffs and remnants of the past; this is the environment in which I live and work.

Zel Hunt draws her inspiration from the Kent coast-line: fragile white chalk cliffs, the criss-crossed lines of real and imagined shipping lanes, coastal colours which change with reflected light and atmospheric conditions.

Zel’s recent series of work ‘Sacred Spaces’ continues to convey the elements of her environment but by intensifying her use of the colour blue she invites the viewer to experience a non-verbal exchange with the image for reflection and contemplation.
